Serving others is a large part of the Christian faith. When you serve others you are serving God as well. The idea of service stems from God's love and the compassion that Jesus showed to all those around him. There are many examples of how to serve others. They include helping in the community, donating to those who may be less fortunate, helping a neighbor, or volunteering in your community. It may not always be easy, but as a person of faith, God calls upon you to serve others and bring His light into the world. Through our service to others, we increase our ability to love which in turn increases our happiness. God has said that those who live with Him must love and serve His children (Matthew 25:34–40).
Jesus demonstrated how to serve others when He came to earth. He did so by teaching people the gospel, healing the sick and feeding the hungry. Jesus humbled Himself and loved others when He chose to wash His disciples’ feet, and the ultimate example, of course, is when He died for our sins. As believers, it's our duty to serve others just as Jesus did.
Prayer
Father, give me a heart like the heart of Jesus, a heart more ready to serve than be served, a heart moved by compassion towards the weak and oppressed. May Jesus' life of love and service be my guide to love and serve the underprivileged, the abandoned and the needy. In Jesus' name, Amen.
